I am a Therapist Intern and Confidence Coach

I am passionate about helping people feel confident – in themselves, their relationships, and their paths forward.

From coach to therapist

After 6+ years as a confidence coach, I realized a few things.  First, I LOVE this work.  Helping people see themselves in a new light, feel empowered to create change, and be more authentic is the absolute best job in the world.  However, I also realized that I could do this for even more people if I expanded my skillset.

Coaching is wonderful for helping you get clarity on the path forward, identifying obstacles, and creating new sustainable habits to move to towards your goals.

For some people though, those obstacles run deep.  Whether they stem from limiting beliefs learned in childhood, are the result of a traumatic experience, or are an intergenerational pattern that they are blind to – coaching wasn’t equipped to do this deeper work.

Last year I began a Marriage and Family Therapy Master’s program at Edgewood College in Madison.  Marriage and Family Therapy is a slight misnomer for the type of work I do though, which is relational work.  Sometimes the relationship I’m working with clients to improve is the one with themselves, sometimes it’s with their significant others and families, and yet other times it’s with their boss and coworkers as they develop their leadership style.

When working with individuals, I lean on multiple therapeutic models including Internal Family Systems (which is amazing when helping folks build confidence), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, CBT, Mindfulness, and others.

For couples, I blend Gottman’s evidence based approach with Emotionally Focused Therapies to help them strengthen relationships, and I use Divorce Discernment principles if they’re unclear on whether or not to stay together.

During the next 12 months (May 2023-2024) I will be doing my clinical internship at an amazing clinic in Madison called Clear Path Counseling and Wellness.  I would love to work with you using my expanded toolkit as a therapist!  Please email me at karla@clearpathmadison.com to get in touch.
